Features

The NT1100 serves as a connection between Honda’s 750 series of touring motorcycles and the renowned Goldwing. It features Honda’s signature design, characterized by its streamlined appearance, distinct front end, and practical rear section. Additionally, Honda includes two detachable panniers (which have a combined volume of 65 litres) as standard with the bike, seamlessly integrating them into the overall design. The bike is equipped with a 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen display that offers three different layouts, along with a secondary LCD display positioned below it. The cluster comes with Bluetooth connectivity, as well as support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Design

One of the three new color options available for the Honda NT1100 is Gunmetal Black Metallic. Customers from around the world also have the choice to go for either Matt Iridium Gray Metallic or Pearl Glare White. However, apart from these color options, the Japanese manufacturer has maintained the same features and design as the previous variant of the motorcycle. The front end of the bike still retains its futuristic appearance with a spacious windscreen and a full-LED headlamp that showcases Honda’s next-generation design style.

LED lighting

The NT1100 showcases LED lighting for both its turn signals and tail lamp. Additionally, the tail section of this sports tourer is equipped with a tail rack and a pair of panniers that perfectly match the color of the rest of the bodywork. Similar to the Africa Twin available in India, this motorcycle is powered by a parallel-twin engine with a displacement of 1048cc. It delivers 100bhp and shares similar numerical values with the ADV model.

Transmission

The NT1100 possesses a parallel-twin engine that closely resembles the Africa Twin’s motor, including a compression ratio of 10.1:1. In other words, this liquid-cooled engine with a displacement of 1,084cc generates 100hp at 7,250rpm and 104Nm at 6,250rpm. However, Honda states that the NT1100 is specifically tuned for “relaxed highway cruising,” differentiating it from the Africa Twin. Buyers have the option to choose between a 6-speed manual transmission or a dual clutch transmission (DCT). The DCT can be customized using four settings to regulate gear changes in full auto mode. Alternatively, riders can manually shift gears using the buttons on the handlebar.

Braking

The NT1100 features a Showa SFF-BP USD fork with 150mm travel, which can be adjusted for preload. It also has a Pro-link monoshock at the rear with the same 150mm axle travel and is equipped with a remote preload adjuster. The bike is equipped with 17-inch wheels and braking is handled by twin 310mm discs with four-piston Nissin calipers at the front, as well as a 256mm disc at the rear with a single-piston caliper. In terms of weight, the MT variant of the bike weighs 238kg, while the DCT version adds an extra 10kg.

Honda

Gearbox

The NT1100 utilizes the Africa Twin’s 101 hp (74kW), 1,084cc parallel-twin engine, which delivers its maximum power of 101 hp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 76.7 pound-feet at 6,250 rpm. The base model weighs 525 pounds, while the optional DCT twin-clutch gearbox adds an additional 22 pounds, bringing the total weight to 547 pounds. Similar to the Africa Twin, the NT1100 features a steel cradle frame and an engine, but it also includes a new bolt-on aluminum subframe specifically designed for carrying luggage.

Suspension

Although the frame of the NT1100 is intended for an adventure bike, it can easily be used for touring purposes. The inclusion of 17-inch wheels on both ends and the lower Showa suspension make it difficult to tell that the NT1100 is closely related to the Africa Twin. Additionally, it does not follow the current trend of having high-rise, adventure-bike-inspired design. However, certain details like the mirrors being mounted on the bars instead of the fairing do have a slightly more adventure bike-style compared to typical touring bikes.

Powertrain

The NT1100 is equipped with a 1,084 cc, parallel-twin engine that generates 102 horsepower at 7,500rpm and 104Nm of torque at 6,250rpm. It can be paired with either a 6-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual transmission, and there is an option for a quickshifter. The bike’s braking system consists of radially mounted dual 310mm floating discs at the front and a single 256mm disc at the rear.

Conclusion

The Honda NT1100 fairing of the bike nicely incorporates the sleek LED headlights with integrated DRLs. Positioned above this is a windscreen that can be adjusted in five ways for height and angle. Along with the deflectors, this windscreen should provide sufficient wind protection. The bike comes in three color options: Matte Iridium Gray, Metallic Pearl Glare White, and Graphite Black. In terms of suspension, the NT1100 features a steel double-cradle frame with a bolt-on aluminum subframe. Supporting the bike’s suspension are a 43mm Showa USD fork at the front and a Showa monoshock at the rear, both offering 150mm of travel suspension.
