Volvo XC40 Recharge- Volvo Cars aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and have a completely electric car lineup by 2030. The XC40 Recharge represents the initial step towards this goal for Volvo Cars, serving as their first-ever fully electric vehicle in our country. This model will be available for purchase later this year. Although the international market offers two versions of the XC40 Recharge – a front-wheel-drive variant with a single 230bhp motor and an all-wheel-drive variant with dual 400bhp motors – the India-specific model is the latter option. With no compromises, this version delivers impressive straight-line performance.
The electric XC40 utilizes a 75kWh battery pack to power two motors – one on each axle, giving it all-wheel drive capability. The combined output of both motors is 300kW (approximately 402bhp) and 660Nm of torque, allowing the XC40 to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 4.9 seconds. The XC40 Recharge provides a seamless and traditional driving experience. Even with four people on board, driving at highway speeds remains exciting. Additionally, the Google-based interface enhances long trips by providing information such as the remaining charge percentage, estimated time of arrival, and distance traveled.

The estimated price of the Volvo XC40 Recharge is around Rs 75 lakh. Instead of a grille, the Volvo badge on the XC40 Recharge has a white-finished strip and new alloy wheels. Similar to Tesla cars, the XC40 Recharge has a frunk located in the front with a capacity of 31 litres. In the centre stack, there is a tablet-sized touchscreen positioned between two extended aircon vents, along with the trademark 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel in a traditional Volvo configuration. The Volvo XC40 Recharge offers various features including a motorised tailgate, a 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, an air purifier, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 12-inch digital drivers display, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless phone charger.
The XC40 Recharge comes with a 9-inch infotainment system that runs on the Google Android OS. It has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with pre-installed Google apps like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store. As for the Volvo XC40 Recharge Performance, this electric SUV is equipped with a dual-motor drivetrain. Each axle has an electric motor rated at 150 kW. The power is supplied by a 78kWh battery, delivering 408PS of power and 660 Nm of peak torque. It also features an all-wheel-drive system and offers a range of 419 kilometers according to the WLTP (World harmonised Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure).

The XC40 Recharge is not a completely new electric vehicle; instead, it is based on the same CMA platform as its conventional internal combustion engine counterpart. The main difference in terms of appearance between the current XC40 and the new Recharge will be the front fascia. The model currently available in India is the pre-facelift version, while the Recharge, which will be launched today, is the facelifted model that will be sold worldwide. The most significant changes include a redesigned front bumper that gives the car a sleeker look and newly-designed LED headlights. Compared to the rectangular units found on the standard XC40, the new headlights have a more angular shape. However, the trademark Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights are still present.
