Mahindra XUV500 Reviews On Road Price 2024 Mileage, Features, Engine, Performance, Design & Images

Mahindra XUV500 Reviews- Mahindra introduced the XUV500 as its flagship model, surpassing the Scorpio, seven years ago. It presented numerous innovative features in its category, providing a car-like driving experience and the capacity to comfortably seat seven individuals in a luxurious setting, all at a price that truly justified its value. However, initially, potential buyers had doubts about spending more than Rs 12 lakh on a Mahindra vehicle. Nonetheless, over time, the XUV effectively addressed these concerns.

Moving ahead by seven years, the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh price range now has a significant number of strong contenders. Consequently, the XUV500 has become indistinguishable from other vehicles in its category. The Mahindra XUV500 is a high-end seven-seater crossover produced by the company. It is positioned just above the Mahindra Scorpio and is currently priced between Rs. 11.47 lakh and Rs. 16.37 lakh. Presently, it offers six different variants with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options available. These variants are equipped with 2.2 litre diesel engines and come with six-speed manual transmissions.

Features

The turbocharged 2.2-liter mHawk 140 diesel engine in the pre-facelift XUV500 used to generate 140PS and 330Nm of torque. In comparison to the Varicor diesel engine in the Tata Hexa, the XUV500’s performance was quite impressive. However, Mahindra engineers have made some changes to the ECU and replaced the previous variable geometry turbocharger with an electronically controlled one, resulting in a power increase of 15PS and a torque increase of 30Nm.

Although these numbers may not be extremely impressive, the additional power and torque can be noticed throughout the rev range. The peak torque now starts flowing from 1750rpm instead of 1600rpm in the previous model and continues till 2800rpm. With these improved figures, the XUV is now almost on par with its competition from Tata. The power band remains unchanged, so you will still need to rev the engine up to 3750rpm to utilize all of its 155PS power output.

Engine and Speed

The mHawk155 Diesel Engine, a 6th Generation eVGT, powers the Mahindra XUV500. This BS6 SUV is equipped with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates 155 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque. The gearbox includes a 6-Speed Synchromesh and an automatic 6-Speed transmission. To ensure smoother gear-shifts, the engine is fitted with a Dual Mass Flywheel. Additionally, the XUV500 petrol variant now features a new 2.2-litre petrol engine that produces 140hp and is paired with a 6-speed automated gearbox.

Degine

With a wheelbase of 2700 mm, the Mahindra XUV500 has dimensions of 4585 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, and 1785 mm in height. The SUV showcases an updated toothed style grille at the front, accompanied by horizontal LED DRLs positioned above the headlamps. While the fog lamp design remains similar to its predecessor, it now incorporates chrome Inserts to enhance its premium appearance. On the exterior, the SUV boasts black plastic side skirting and integrated turning winkers on the outside rear vision mirrors. Notably, there have been significant changes made to the tail lamp design, resulting in smaller clusters of tail-lamps.

The Mahindra XUV500 offers ample space, accommodating up to seven individuals. Depending on the model, the seats come in leather, jacquard, or premium fabric options. The XUV500 features a dashboard made of soft-touch synthetic leather, with intricate stitch lines on the console and door trims. The steering wheel, instrument console, and air conditioning controls remain unchanged from the previous model. Additionally, it includes a 6-way power-adjustable seat and an anti-pinch electric sunroof. The car also comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display and lumbar support adjustment for optimal driving comfort.

Exterior

The main changes in the XUV500 are focused on its face as part of a facelift. Instead of the fang-like vertical ducts, the grille now features several small chrome elements. The intention was to give it a more premium appearance, hence the generous use of chrome. This can also be observed at the top and bottom of the grille, as well as extending into the headlamps and flanking the fog lamp bezels. The static bending projector headlights now have daytime running LEDs, creating a halo effect when aligned with the chrome strip on top of the grille. The power bulges at each end of the bonnet remain unchanged and contribute to its aggressive character. Looking back, some may find that the new XUV500’s front end appears cluttered compared to the simpler design of its predecessor. However, we believe that there will still be those who appreciate the XUV’s new look.

Interior

The configuration of the dashboard, which is entirely black, has not been altered. Nevertheless, the plastic material on the top of the dashboard has been covered with leather trims, while the central console now has a piano black finish, which provides a more pleasant tactile experience. Additionally, the seats have been upgraded to a more luxurious level with the addition of quilted tan leather. Consequently, settling in for a quick nap will be effortless. However, it should be noted that cleaning these seats will pose a challenge due to their propensity to get spoiled easily.

Perfomance

The petrol variant of the XUV500 is powered by a 2.0-liter engine that generates 140 hp and 320 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The XUV500 is equipped with various features like a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, sunroof, and more. In terms of safety, it includes ABS with EBD, hill hold and descent control, airbags, and a reverse camera. With its attractive appearance, feature-packed cabin, and powerful engine choices, the Mahindra XUV500 remains a popular option for SUV buyers in India.

Ride & Handling

The XUV has always been built on a monocoque platform, which means it doesn’t experience as much body roll in corners compared to body-on-frame SUVs like the Scorpio and the Safari. The XUV handles curves at speeds over 70kmph without any wobble or nervousness. Despite its size, the XUV is agile, although its steering lacks great feel. In the top-spec W11 variant that we tested, there is an option for 18-inch alloy wheels with slightly reduced tyre profiles from 235/65 to 235/60. However, the standard 17-inch wheels will still be available. The ride on the larger wheels feels sporty but not stiff at all times. However, the XUV still tends to bounce over sharp bumps at the back end.
