The Niro EV, which is the second generation of this model, is a budget-friendly electric car that offers a delightful driving experience. It boasts an impressive EPA-estimated range of 253 miles. However, it’s worth mentioning that it only comes with front-wheel drive. While the 11-kW onboard charger enables faster charging at home, its limited maximum acceptance rate of 85-kW results in slower public DC fast charging.

The 2024 Niro EV utilizes a front-wheel drive powertrain with a single motor. It has an output of 201 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. This enables the all-electric Niro to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, which is 0.8 seconds faster than the PHEV, the second quickest model. On a full charge, the Niro has a range of 253 miles, surpassing the most efficient 2024 Nissan Leaf’s range of 212 miles. Throughout the week we tested the Niro EV, our average efficiency was 3.8 miles per kilowatt-hour (16.4 kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometers).

The maximum charging rate is definitely on the lower side at 85 kW. Kia predicts that using a fast charger with a capacity of 350 kW, the Niro EV’s battery can reach 80 percent in just 43 minutes.
