Hyundai Santa Fe Reviews On Road Price 2024 Mileage, Features, Engine, Performance, Design & Images

Hyundai Santa Fe Reviews- Although the Hyundai Santa Fe may not receive as much recognition compared to other SUVs in the Korean brand’s lineup, it still stands out as a unique model that offers appealing features. Positioned between the compact Tucson and the three-row Palisade, this mid-size SUV provides two-row seating and various powertrain choices. The standard engine is a rather lackluster 2.5-liter inline-four with 191 horsepower, while a more powerful 277-hp turbo four is available as an optional upgrade, which we highly recommend. Both engines can be paired with either front- or all-wheel drive.

Additionally, Hyundai offers a hybrid version of the Santa Fe, boasting a 226-hp setup and an impressive city fuel efficiency rating of 36 mpg according to the EPA. For those seeking even greater efficiency, there is a plug-in hybrid model that delivers 260 horsepower, a combined MPGe rating of 76, and an estimated electric-only range of 31 miles. Despite its unimpressive base engine, the spacious 2024 Santa Fe offers a comfortable ride and comes at a competitive price point. As a result, it holds a solid position among other mid-size SUVs in terms of rankings.

Hyundai Santa Fe Reviews 2024

There are not many changes for the Santa Fe in 2024, except for some rearranged standard features. Hyundai has removed the SEL Convenience package and made some alterations to the front fascia, although this depends on the trim level. The SE model and higher now come with acoustic-laminated front windows for improved sound insulation, as well as puddle lamps that illuminate the ground near the doors.

The SEL now includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear sunshades, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, and a 10.3-inch center touchscreen a[s standard equipment. Additionally, all hybrid models now have the 10.3-inch touchscreen and a navigation system that can receive over-the-air updates. Lastly, the plug-in hybrid now includes Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist semi-autonomous drive mode and the larger touchscreen as standard features.

Features

There will be two powertrains available: a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid with a six-speed automatic. The plug-in hybrid option has been removed. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be offered. The dashboard will feature a curved infotainment display screen, along with two 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system. We anticipate that features such as AEB with pedestrian detection, AEB highway, BSW, and RCTW will continue to be included as standard.

Engine & Transmission

The Santa Fe can be equipped with four different powertrains, including a hybrid and plug-in hybrid option. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that generates 191 horsepower. For those looking for more power, there is also a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine available, producing 277 horsepower. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and can be equipped with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The hybrid model utilizes a six-speed automatic transmission and combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, resulting in a total output of 226 horsepower. All-wheel drive comes standard on the hybrid model. As for the plug-in hybrid version, it combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined output of 260 horsepower.

Performance

During our evaluation on the test track, we found that the gas-fed XRT model equipped with the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine had sluggish acceleration, taking 9.6 seconds to reach 60 mph. If you desire a Santa Fe with livelier acceleration, we recommend opting for the turbocharged model. In our test drive of a fully loaded Calligraphy model featuring the turbocharged four-cylinder engine, we achieved an impressive 60-mph time of 6.0 seconds.

Apart from that, the Santa Fe delivers a smooth and stable ride for everyday driving tasks and offers just enough agility and steering feedback to satisfy those who appreciate an enjoyable driving experience. If you’re seeking a more thrilling driving encounter in an SUV, it may be worth considering the Chevy Blazer or Honda Passport. When it comes to towing capabilities, the gas-fed Santa Fe is capable of towing up to 3500 pounds, whereas the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants can only handle up to 2000 pounds.

Range, Charging & Battery Life

According to the EPA, the Santa Fe with a plug-in hybrid system is equipped with a 12.4-kWh battery pack that allows for up to 31 miles of electric-only driving. In terms of technology, every Santa Fe comes with an 8.0- or 10.3-inch touchscreen on the dashboard, which offers easy-to-use controls and attractive features for an enjoyable infotainment experience. It also includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with the option for wireless charging and a high-quality 630-watt, 12-speaker audio system.

Fuel Economy & Real-World MPG

According to the EPA, the non-turbo four-cylinder Santa Fe is estimated to achieve a maximum of 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. If you opt for the turbocharged version, you can expect ratings of up to 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The hybrid model performs even better, with ratings as high as 36 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. During our comprehensive testing, we conducted a highway fuel-economy test at a speed of 75 mph. In this test, an all-wheel-drive Calligraphy test vehicle equipped with a 2.5-liter turbo-four engine achieved an average of 27 mpg. Interior, Comfort & Cargo

Hyundai is renowned for its well-built interiors and practical features, rather than for trendy designs and high-end materials. Nonetheless, the Santa Fe boasts an appealing cabin that offers a range of modern options, including a digital gauge cluster, head-up display, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and more. Last year, the interior design of the Santa Fe was slightly updated to bring it closer in line with the larger and more luxurious Palisade SUV. Its most impressive feature is the spaciousness it provides for passengers in both rows, making it ideal for long road trips. Additionally, the Santa Fe offers ample cargo space behind the back seat – we managed to fit 15 carry-on bags in there and a total of 33 when the rear seats were folded down.

Thanks to its tall design, the front and back of the vehicle provide ample space, ensuring that there is enough head, shoulder, and legroom for all occupants, including larger individuals. The middle row is especially comfortable. However, even though it is advertised as a 7-seater, the legroom in the last row is only suitable for small children. When compared to its direct competitors, the Hyundai Santa Fe stands out with its exceptional interior design and quality. The plush plastics and leather-covered surfaces give a luxurious feel and are well-constructed.

The doors featuring Hyundai Santa Fe badging add a nice touch to the overall design, as does the center console with its integrated touchscreen and other controls. An interesting feature worth mentioning is the floating center console storage space reminiscent of Volvo designs. Two minor downsides with the interior are the lack of a standard sat-nav system considering the car’s price and the small size (just 4.3 inches) of the touchscreen, although it is highly responsive to use.

Suspension

The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which is the standard option, is both underpowered and noisy. On the other hand, the optional 2.5-liter turbo engine provides significantly more power but is paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission that causes vibrations at low speeds. If fuel efficiency is a priority, the hybrid version, equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo engine, achieved an overall average of 30 mpg in our tests and is highly recommended. Additionally, the hybrid version offers a more comfortable ride compared to the non-hybrid Santa Fe model. The cabin is spacious with ample room in the rear seat and cargo area. While the interior design is stylish, the center console features numerous buttons, and operating the push-button gear selector without looking can be challenging. Standard safety features include Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection.
