Citroen eC3: The steering isn’t one-finger-twisting light, but it’s just right and the weight provides a degree of confidence around the few corners we encounter. However, body roll is present, and it’s clear that the eC3 doesn’t like to be hustled. The suspension is clearly tuned for ride comfort, which is a Citroën hallmark. Features of Citroen eC3 

The Citroen eC3 is expected to continue the list of features seen on the standard/internal combustion engine-powered C3. It should also mean that it will carry forward the built-for-a-price interior quality and customizable exterior and interior trims. From the spy shots, we know that the Citroen EC3 will not look much different from the C3 until you see the door for the charging port on the front right fender. Citroën may play with the exterior trim color and wheel cover design to differentiate the EV version. More details are awaited.

Similar styling means the Citroen eC3 has the same upright stance as its ICE counterpart, with all its sharp and smart details such as the chevron logo that flows neatly into the DRLs at the front. Even the grille is the same open unit – not sealed like the EV – and the bonnet has nice deep creases. Our test car was painted bright orange with optional white contrast accents and I especially like the side cladding.

You have to look closely to spot the differences between the ICE and EV variants, with the latter carrying only the ‘e’ and eC3 badging, and a charging port flap cut into the right front fender. There is even a recessed fuel filler flap on the eC3, but it doesn’t open here. Look closely, however, and you’ll see that between the wheels, the car sits down to a side-facing battery pack.

On the inside too, the Electric and ICE versions are identical, with the only difference being the absence of a gear lever. Instead, you have a small toggle switch to choose drive direction and a button on the bottom to choose Eco mode. There’s handy storage around the cabin and the same neat contrast-style panels in the dash that can be had in either gray or bright orange. The steering wheel is a unit with funky cubic-styled elements, while the small black and white instrument panel houses a few additional displays for range and charging.

Unlike other EVs at the budget end, the EC3 only comes in one battery size, which is a 29.2kWh lithium-ion pack. Range is claimed at 320km (ARAI), but as is the case with all EVs, expect a little less. Hopefully we will test it soon where we will check the range, performance and charging. Citroën doesn’t supply a wall box charger, so at a 15A plug point at home, it will take 10.5 hours to go from 10 to 100 per cent. To speed things up, you can charge it with a DC fast charger, but even here the speed is capped at 7.2 kW and going from 10 to 80 percent will take about an hour.
